Drie nieuwe referenties

Na tips van PD8MD en PD0RWL zijn de kastelen Eerde (bij Ommen) en Wouw (bij Roosendaal) toegevoegd aan de lijst als PA-00288 en 289. 

Daarnaast is Fort Rammenkens (gebouwd in 1547) nu ook onderdeel van COTA-PA en WCA.

PA3DLX actief vanuit museumfort

Fred PA3DLX deelde deze foto's van de radiokamer in fort Aan den Ham in Krommenie - PA-02007:

Zoals Fred schrijft: "Het Fort is een museum fort en er komen dan ook regelmatig bezoekers in de radiokamer en dan komt er van verbindingen maken weinig terecht."

Af en toe lukt het toch en kun je Fred werken in het museum.

PI4CG vanuit Fort Buitensluis (PA-02073)

Het contest team van PI4CG was op Open Monumentendag op 9 en 10 september actief vanaf PA-02073 - Fort Buitensluis. Het team heeft hier een vaste opstelling met een shack in het kruitmagazijn 1884.

PD0RWL activeert 10 lokaties

Toon PD0RWL is weer flink op pad geweest. Hij heeft de afgelopen weken 10 forten en bunkers geactiveerd: 34, 151, 211, 2033, 2083, 3001, 3002, 3003, 3014, 3017.

PF6SABINA vanaf Fort Sabina

Tijdens Kunst en Monumenten Route Moerdijk en de Open Monumentendagen op 9 en 10 september 2023 hebben wij Fort Sabina geactiveerd met de call PF6SABINA, referentienummer PA-02080.

Het thema van de kunsttentoonstelling in het fort was de Watersnoodramp in 53. Wij hebben de rol van de zendamateurs van toen belicht en daarbij een link naar het heden gemaakt door ook de Dares te benoemen. Met dank aan het Watersnoodmuseum in Ouwerkerk konden wij het geheel met een aantal posters aankleden. 

De ontvangst op Fort Sabina was hartelijk. Ons onderkomen was een kazemat waar het binnen lekker koel was. Na aankomst zaterdagmorgen hebben wij eerst de mast met antennes bovenop de kazemat geplaatst. Gezien het weer een warme klus. Na het testen van de antennes en opstellen van de twee sets werd rond de middag de eerste verbinding gemaakt met PB6BB, de voormalige BB schuilbunker te Westenschouwen. Beide dagen hebben wij de nodige bezoekers mogen ontvangen. Ook een flink aantal amateurs hebben wij persoonlijk mogen begroeten. In totaal zijn er op HF en VHF 68 verbindingen gemaakt voor een groot deel dankzij de ervaring en inzet van Toon PD0RWL. Zondagmiddag zijn wij, na het afbreken van het station, moe maar voldaan naar huis gegaan.

PD0RWL vanaf verschillende forten actief

Toon PD0RWL was de afgelopen weken weer actief vanaf drie verschillende referenties.

Eerst bij de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie bij Fort Altena PA-02038 en later bij de Stelling van de monden van de Maas en het Haringvliet:

• PA-02082 - Fort Noorddijk
• PA-02084 - Kazerne Haerlem

In totaal maakte Toon bijna 300 QSOs op 10, 20 en 40m. Hieronder twee sfeerbeelden:

PA3DLX from inside PA-02007

Fred PA3DLX has been active from the radio room inside Fort aan den Ham (PA-02007) - a new reference - that is part of the old defenses of Amsterdam.

The fortress has some old radio equipment on display but also a working radio station. On top of the fortress there two antennas: a G5RV and a dualband vertical for 2m and 70cm.

2023 brengt nieuwe COTA-PA referenties

Op meerder verzoek bevat het COTA-PA programma naast versterkte huizen en kastelen (291 stuks) nu ook twee nieuwe verzamelingen verdedigingswerken: forten (90 stuks) en Atlantikwall bunkers (15 stuks). 

De forten vormen onder andere de Nieuwe en Oude Hollandse Waterlinie en de verdedigingswerken van Amsterdam en Utrecht.

De nieuwe objecten hebben hun eigen nummerreeks (forten 2xxx, bunkers 3xxx) en zijn ook zo opgenomen in de WCA database. Ze gelden dus naast voor COTA-PA awards ook voor WCA awards.

De totale lijst vind je onder "COTA-PA references" - daar vind je ook een kaart met de locatie van de objecten. De verschillende objecten hebben ieder een eigen kleur. Daarnaast vind je op de kaart - als je inzoomt - de activatie-cirkels. Dit zijn cirkels die het gebied aangeven tot een afstand van 1km van het object. Je activatie is geldig zolang je binnen die cirkel blijft met je station.

Wereld kastelenweekend 2021

Zoals ieder jaar is er weer een speciaal kastelenevenement: het World Castles Weekend dat georganiseerd wordt door WCA. Ooit begonnen als een event dat ook maar één weekend duurde maar inmiddels verlengd naar ruim een week.

Dit jaar loopt het evenement van 11 tot en met 20 juni. Door mee te doen als chaser of activator kun je voor een speciaal (electronische) award in aanmerking komen.

Voor chasers geldt dat ze 3 QSOs moeten maken met verschillende activators binnen hun continent of 1 DX QSO. Activators moeten minimaal 1 object activeren conform de regels.

Toon PD0RWL castle-active

Toon PD0RWL has been visiting a large number of castles over the last weeks. He has helped quite a few chasers reach a next award level. To give an indication of Toon's activities you will find some of his photos below.

Toon PD0RWL is de afgelopen weken actief geweest vanaf meerdere kasteellocaties. Met zijn activiteiten heeft hij een flink aantal kasteel-chasers aan een nieuw awardniveau geholpen. Hieronder wat beelden die Toon tijdens zijn activiteiten heeft gemaakt.

The P*10WCA event has ended

WCA turned 10 years in June and COTA-PA joined in the festivities with eight special calls. It has been a great month with an activity level we have not seen in PA ever before. 

Eight different operators PH2A, PA2GB, PA3FYG, PD0RWL, PE4BAS, PA1H, PG8M and PH0NO went out to 80 different castles, logging 8650 QSOs with 2550 different chasers from 61 DXCC. Below is the list of DXCC with more than 200 QSOs this month.

Awards

A total of 222 chasers (coincidentally a very nice number) managed to reach one of the special P*10WCA award levels: 97 bronze, 79 silver and 46 gold.

P*10WCA - third week

The third week has passed and all eight special calls (PA10WCA-PH10WCA) have been active by now - activating a total of 58 different castle references. 

Together we have managed to log 6700 QSOs from more than 2200 chasers from 62 DXCC.

In the meantime 186 chasers have managed to reach one of the award levels. There is a special page on this website dedicated to the award: WCA10 Award page

P*10WCA - second week

We are in the second week of the anniversary event for the World Castle Award. Seven of the eight special calls have been active from 35 different castles in The Netherlands.
3800 QSOs haven been logged with 1500 different chasers.

As there are already 100 chasers that have reached award levels bronze, silver or even gold, we have decided to make the awards available already based on the activity up till now. There is a special page on this website dedicated to the award: WCA10 Award page

Note that this is a special service for the most active chasers. It is not meant to be a real-time award system. It will only be updated once or twice until the final update after all activities have been completed and processed (beginning of July).

The special event for the 10th anniversary of the World Castle Award is now one week old.

In COTA-PA in this first week we have had 7 special calls active (PB10WCA, PC10WCA, PD10WCA, PE10WCA, PF10WCA, PG10WCA and PH10WCA), activating a total of 17 different castles.

WCA 10 year activities - planning and award rules

The special WCA 10 years calls (P*10WCA) will be active in the month of June 2019. Activities that have been planned by the operators will be in the list below.

The planning is still under development. Activities will be added once dates are known. Some activators might however go out and do last minute activities (so will not be in the list).

PE10WCA will activate PA-00007 a number of times at the end of the morning UTC during weekdays.

Award

For chasers of the WCA 10 year activity as organised bij COTA-PA there will be an award in three levels: bronze, silver and gold.
Each call worked is worth 50 points, each reference you work a call is worth 10 points (so 60 points for each first contact with a call and 10 points for each consecutive contact with the same call from a different location).

The points for the award levels are as follows:

• Gold: over 555 points
• Silver: over 333 points
• Bronze: over 222 points

There are in total 222 chasers that achieved an award level: 97 Bronze, 79 Silver and 46 Gold chasers.

You can check if you have reached an award level by entering your call in the field below (base call without any "/"). If you have reached enough points your award will download automatically.

WCA anniversary - special event

In June COTA-PA is going to participate in the 10th anniversary festivities of the World Castle Award (WCA). For this occasion we will have 8 activators using 8 different special calls while activating castles that are part of the COTA-PA and WCA program.

There will be a special award for working these P*10WCA callsigns - with three levels (bronze, silver, gold) depending on the amount of contacts you make with the activators.

Most activity will be in the period of 8-16 June but some calls will be active on other dates in June. Exact dates and times will be communicated at a later date.

COTA-PA kaart bijgewerkt

De COTA-PA kaart bevat nu alle kastelen en forten die onderdeel uitmaken van het COTA-PA programma: Google Maps 

Voor de oplettende gebruiker: de kaart bevat blauwe en groene icons. De groene icons komen overeen met kastelen waarbij de 1km grens (deels) overlapt met natuurparken die onderdeel zijn van het WWFF PAFF programma. Wellicht zijn er bij deze kastelen mogelijkheden om de programma's te combineren. Of dit praktisch lukt zal afhangen van hoe je op pad bent - vanuit de auto zijn er minder mogelijkheden dan vanuit het open veld.

WCA bestaat 10 jaar in 2019

Het World Castle Award programma, waar verschillende nationale programma's bij aangesloten zijn (zoals COTA-PA), bestaat in juni 2019 10 jaar.

Om dit te vieren zullen er over de wereld verschillende activators op pad gaan met speciale calls in de vorm van **10WCA in de periode van 8 t/m 16 juni 2019. Zie ook de post op de WCA site voor meer info.

Het zou leuk zijn als we ook in PA enkele speciale calls in de lucht zouden kunnen brengen in juni. Mocht je hier interesse in hebben, laat ons dat dan even weten.

PE4BAS from Rensumaborg (PA-00009)

Bas PE4BAS activated PA-00009 Rensumaborg in two visits earlier this month. Working QRP he logged 61 different stations.
